Spooky Season's Photo Trends, Originating From Tiktok

Not surprisingly, TikTok in the past year has become a vital source of new trends in photography. Trends tend to pass quickly on the app, along with the ever-changing interests and tastes of the app's teen user base, but some have spread off the app and into Instagram feeds of accomplished professional photographers, always on the lookout for a bit of inspiration.

The trends this October? Ghosts and pumpkin heads. Even amateur photographers and teens have contributed to spreading the trend, taking to the streets with entire friend groups to take appropriately spooky-themed photos for Instagram and TikTok. The photo shoots have become something of a fun "challenge" on the app.

The pumpking head trend, though a little less popular, has also spread quickly in the past week or so. Though a little more difficult to achieve (rather than simply donning a white sheet with sunglasses, the trend involves carving out an actual pumpkin and having the model wear it on their head--slimy, gross pumpkin insides and all) the trend has seen interesting results, and one professional photographer with a modest TikTok following even photographed his pets wearing pumpkins.
