Recently news sites have focused on a resurgence of cases in countries across Europe, especially in France in Belgium. The spike did not come as a surprise, as scientists had been predicting a second surge of cases since the beginning of quarantine. Many European countries were among the first areas of the world to have spikes, so they are also the first to experience the second surge.
In France, the BBC reported on the new spike in cases, as daily death levels have reached the highest peak since April. The country's president, Macron, has instilled new rules to hopefully lower the Covid cases--closing all nonessential businesses, including bars and restaurants, but keeping schools and factories open. France is the European country with the most cases per capita. Some 50000 cases per day are being reported.
Belgium, ABC News reports, has also been hit especially hard by the second wave of the pandemic. A repeating problem for the small country has been the harsh divisions between the Dutch and French speaking parts of the country, which often disagree on government handlings of situations. With many people in the highest position of power in the country--the country has 9 ministers--all vying to come up with health and Covid tracking rules, the country has been struggling.
