Problems with Wake County Chromebook Pickups

As Wake County Schools progress into the third week of virtual learning, some students continue to have issues logging into their online classes thanks to a somewhat messy attempt on the county's part of getting every student their own laptop and hot spot if necessary. The county had previously promised device and hot spot distribution in time for the first day of school, but as the first day came and went on August 17th, many families struggled to help their students log onto online classes due to a shortage of laptops or computers in the household.

Families once again expressed discontent last week, ABC 11 reported, after arriving at a scheduled device distribution at Apex High School, only to find that distribution had been canceled due to delays with the shipment of technology. At this point, only 64 percent of Wake County family requests for laptops or hotspots had been distributed. Another article from WRAL noted the same lack of distribution.

The shipment finally came in this Tuesday, and some parents were finally able to pick up computers for their children. Distribution will continue throughout this week at Enloe, Knightdale, and Apex high schools, ABC 11 reports.
