The Slow Path To School Reopening

Updates on discussing school re-openings continue to trend in education news as schools across the nation enter the first quarter of the year. Many schools will continue online, as many parents express outrage at the state of virtual learning, which many say is inefficient and useless. There may be a silent majority that does favor a slower, safer return to school, however, writes US News. Experts say that social media exaggerates the split in opinion following the results of a poll showing that most parents (in addition to teachers) are cautious about returning to in-person learning.

News sites also continue to report on different school districts as they reopen, close, or announce changes in different states. The Charlotte Observer writes about a board approval of students returning to classrooms, but with a plan that makes older students stay home longer. The News Tribune reports on a district in Washington state, called Tacoma public schools, that also released a return plan which is conditional on COVID cases remaining stable.

Local news sits also report often on Wake County's decisions regarding schooling. Officials have set a target date for return to school in October, but the date is an estimate and planners are more focused on conditions for return than setting an exact date. School sports are slated to continue regardless.
